Importance of Video content on learning process

Long lecture makes the students easily get bored, and it leaves the aim of the concept uncleared. While if we use the technique of explaining a certain concept via a video, then the students can understand it much better.

The difference is that a student paid more attention to video because it had both visuals and sound and things were showed with an example shown. Visuals are a powerful tool that can make difficult things easier.

Information technology has changed our lives in so many ways. We cannot deny its importance in our life. Similarly, when this technology is paired with education, then a tremendous change is observed in the learning process. Educational technology or EdTech plays an important role in the eLearning platform, helping the learners even in times of global pandemic.

In the education sector, there are so many new tools or resources now available for better learning, under it one such tool is the educational video content, which is no doubt the most important thing during this time of Covid-19. Because of the pandemic, everything is now online, students are pursuing virtual classes. In remote learning, educational video content has played a powerful role.

In this blog, you will get to know how and why video content should be paired with education and how you can make the most of this resource to get the best possible result.

What is the importance of video content on the learning process?

You cannot deny the multisensory experience of the video content that has the power of both hearing and watching. And this is the strongest point or the feature of video content, as it is the best capable of gaining the attention of the learner at the very first glimpse.

And second, it is very much loved by the children, for example, when in a class a teacher brings a TV or projector to teach a certain topic, then the excitement of the children is too much that cannot be ignored at all. So it is very well-proven and tested that educational video content can capture the learner’s interest.

The video-based content can easily be shared on various platforms, not only it can be shown in an offline class but also can be shared on the eLearning platforms for the virtual classes. A large community can view the video content at the same time right away sitting at their homes. The students can view the video at their convenient time with no restrictions.

What are the applications of educational video content?

The applications are:

  • The frequent use of the video content helps in the school’s promotion and the students can get to know it much better.

  • It helps in welcoming the new students in the school by demonstrating the rules and regulations of it.

  • Things can be easily updated and known to the parents by tutorial video posts.

  • It acts as a complementary bonus to the subject.

  • New concepts or research can be illustrated to the students and help them understand better.

Quick short video content stimulates the student’s minds and makes a positive impact on their mind. Now instead of using the whiteboards or lectures, they are using educational video content. The students can practice the concept explained in the video several times they want. Memorizing the content is not worth it instead students are now choosing to learn while watching.

Advantages of including the educational video content

    • Dividing the advantages of educational video content into two types:

      1. Benefits for the students.

      2. Benefits for the teachers.

Now some of the major benefits of video content for the students are:

      • Deep impact and clear understanding.

Educational video content is divided into several parts decreasing the complexities of the concept by the addition of distinct sounds, music, pictures, and easy script. The explanation is mostly based on the method of storytelling, including metaphors and different analogies to explain things differently. All these features have a deep impact on the learner’s mind, and they can learn and remember things for a longer duration.

      • The benefit of watching at a convenient time.

This is one of the most convenient and efficient ways of Video content, as there is no bound of particular time on the student. A student can choose the desired time and place to watch the video. Second, the student can ask a question at their ease. It is good for those students who are rather shy to ask questions in front of everyone.

      • Increased digital literacy and suited for a hectic lifestyle.

Since now, when all things are digital, students also need to be digitally literate to cope up with the world and the present situation. Using these educational video content regularly helps them develop digital skills. In today’s busy world, when students have back-to-back virtual or offline classes, many students avoid long lectures or scripts. As an alternative, the teachers can make a short video that a student cannot afford to ignore.

Not only for the students but also for the teachers, there are several benefits of educational video content. They are

      • Regular track of the student’s activity.

Most of the eLearning platforms today offer the feature to keep a track of the progress of the student. A teacher can easily monitor whether the student has watched a video.

      • Decreases the burden of the teacher.

The prime reason for decreasing the burden is avoiding answers to the same questions. Many students can have the same question for a particular video, so a teacher has to answer just once to all at the same time. Many teachers reviewed they had a more motivated and cheerful class when the concept was taught through videos.

      • Better outcomes.

When the student understands a particular topic much easily, then they will eventually perform better in class. Ultimately, when the performance of the entire class is enhanced, then the reputation of the teacher’s increases accordingly.

Conclusion

Educational video content’s popularity is increasing day by day because of its immense benefits for both the teachers and the students. I would say that if anything is making the level of education valuable, then that has to be widely used for the betterment of the community.
