Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ

Emotional Intelligence
4.6/5

I first read this book when I was 19. I found this book worth reading for building a sound foundation of knowing your emotions and administering them well according to different situations. If you have less control over your emotions and you overreact or outburst on certain things, then you should definitely read this book for a brighter side.

A thought-provoking book, written by Daniel Goleman, made me understand the situation of humans and some practical ways to have a healthier life. In this book, the writer points out that emotional intelligence is equally significant as an intelligence quotient for victory, whether it is in the educational, professional, or social form of one’s life. And emotional intelligence is a skill that can be developed, we can easily teach it in schools via skill training sessions.

Daniel Goleman also described some amazing stories of the boundaries of psychology and neuroscience. That shows the two new surprising insights into our two brains — one is rational and the other one is emotional together with how they mold our fate.

I would say the book has 5 main objectives that need to be highlighted. They are:

  • Self-consciousness.

  • Administering your emotions.

  • Boosting your self-confidence

  • Feeling of empathy and social values.

  • Administering the relationships with people.

The starting pages of the book depict how our brain functions in different situations and what is our first reaction to it. The book very well described how a teenager and a mature adult’s brain handles emotions differently.

The author also gave ideas and solutions on how to deal with negative thoughts and to control the emotions avoiding the lashing outburst. It is as simple as that when your brain understands that how emotions and moods react differently every time then all your problems would be easily solved because the cause or the root of the problem causing sensation is easily handled by the brain well.

The book is beautifully written and is divided into several chapters, so you can easily pick the topic that you want to know about.

I found this book worth reading for building a sound foundation of knowing your emotions and administering them well according to different situations. If you have less control over your emotions and you overreact or outburst on certain things, then you should definitely read this book for a brighter side.
